DOGS : Dogs in dreams will tend to symbolise some specific aspect of
their behavior. Dogs are pack animals and maybe can link to your wish for
others to follow and copy your behavior. They may symbolise a dogs ability
to sense danger(especially if the dog barks). Dogs are territorial so look
for some issue in your life involving control of territory. Dogs can symbolise
good friends and devoted family. In a negative sense dogs may link to stale
ideas which just follow the pack and have no imagination.

Below you will see a series of quotes. Each quote represents the meaning
of a particular dream(these are all dreams where the meaning is understood
totally). For instance one dream may have meant that the dreamer was having
trouble at work. In that case the quote may simply be "There is a bad atmosphere
at work". Some information is included about which dream symbols were included
in the dream(within the squares brackets). Often a sample dream is included
which shows you how the dream interpretation was reached.

ESSAY : What is the symbolic meaning of dogs in dreams?
Dogs in dreams have several meanings.
Dogs are pack animals and so can symbolise people who are devoted to you.
E.g.
"Well I ended the relationship with my boyfriend but really I am not
sure why. He is VERY DEVOTED."[Dream symbol - Accidentally kills dog
][the dream which this quote is based upon is featured in full at the end
of this article]
"Now I have split from my boyfriend I am starting to GET ALONG with him"
[Dream symbol - black puppy]
"I know I have to move to another state yet I just cannot see why I cannot
continue my relationship with my boyfriend. We are so DEVOTED"[Dream
symbol - golden retriever]
"My father wants me to meet some influential people and build up a NETWORK
OF LOYAL CONTACTS but its really not my scene"[Dream symbol - puppy]
"Things have improved for me with my son moving back with my newly born
grandchild. I can show my DEVOTION now "[Dream symbol - dogs ]
"I really cannot trust my sister. She has just erased all of my writing
from seven years on my computer. She doesn't care either - its just so annoying"[Dream
symbol - black dog runs away ]
"I can sense something is wrong with my husband but he will not talk
about it. I am not about to give up my marriage but I do expect a closer bond
between us and an ability to stick by each other during difficult times. Right
now he seems distant"[Dream symbol - lose my dog]
Dogs faithfully follow the pack leader and will symbolise attempts to get
others to faithfully follow a set of ideas. E.g.
"Hopefully given time they will listen to me and follow what I am saying"[Dream
symbol - dogs]
Dogs have very strong senses and may warn of danger. E.g.
"I am trying to SENSE which is the right way for me to go in life"[Dream
symbol - dog ]
Dogs are creatures of territory and will guard it fiercely. E.g.
"Its my department and I dislike her coming in and ordering people around.
Its MY TERRITORY"[Dream symbol - dog barking ]
"I want to see a different doctor in my medical practice. I am not happy
with my present doctor. I just do not want to offend him and upset the system.
There is a right way of doing things"[Dream symbol - bitten by gaurd
dog]
Similarly dogs can symbolise the need for loyalty. E.g.
"My ex has turned up and is demanding access with my kids. He is trying
to show how LOYAL and COMMITTED he is"[Dream symbol - dogs]
"They feel that they have to remake these films but really the original
was so much better"[Dream symbol - dog]
Dogs then symbolise territoriality, devoted people, the faithful following
of an idea or person. Angry dogs symbolise how one of these is under threat
somehow. E.g.
"My sister just started an argument out of the blue with my mother. It
lasted all afternoon"[Dream symbol - angry Alsatian dog ]
"My husband has been diagnosed with cancer. Its going to be a tough challenge
to our relationship" [Dream symbol - rotweiller ]
"I do not know why my brother will not work hard on this project. We
can prove so much if it succeeds. I expected more LOYALTY "[Dream symbol
- angry white dog]
"I am sure that if I relaxed that people would not tear me apart"
[Dream symbol - dog ]
In some cases dogs can be symbolic of stale ideas and ways of doing things.
They show us doing the same thing everyone else does without any thought.
Just following the pack. E.g.
"When I first read the book I thought it FAITHFULLY FOLLOWED the same
old path that others follow yet it was also very challenging and deep in its
meaning"[Dream symbol - half dog half ferret ]

DREAM TIP : Try to think of dream symbols as words. Think of dogs in
dreams as representing the phrase 'a true friend'. Then try to write down
a few quotes that capture how you feel about long term and important issues
in your life. Then write down several quotes which capture your feelings about
anything that happened the previous day. Think of things like "I was thinking
a lot about my job yesterday and how I have enjoyed my times there", or "I
have been worried about my ankle ", or "I have been thinking about buying
a new car but I am not sure where the best deal is". Now look back over those
quotes and see how the phrase "a true friend" could have any relevance at
all. If there is a strong connection then this maybe what this dream symbol
links to.

THE DREAM - There was this tiny dog was on a leash and got snagged
underneath his porch while his family didn't notice. I tried pulling him out,
and ended up snapping his neck, killing the poor little dog instantly. The
family realized their dog was missing and pulled on the leash, only to find
the dead body of their poor dog. I ran away from the scene feeling like the
worst person in the world. I was only trying to help!
THE REALITY The dreamers boyfriend had just broken up with her. However, it
was a real big surprise and in some ways she could not understand how the
relationship broke up. There were issues but nothing that she didn't feel
could be sorted out.
THE INTERPRETATION The dream came just after the dreamers break up with her
boyfriend so it was obvious she was going to dream about this. The dream above
all captured the immediacies of the event. It was such a surprise and at the
time seemed so unnecessary. It also captured the sense that this break up
happened very quickly and was in some ways an accident - just like the death
of the dog. The leash is a sign of an emotional connection. The dreamer felt
that she was helping her boyfriend with the issues that were in his life.
The dream features a dog - they symbolise things which are good for you. For
the dreamer the break up was necessary and seemed to lack any sense. It was
obviously against her own best interest. The dog may even have symbolised
her ex boyfriend - dogs often signify trusted relationships.
Symbolic Meanings
DOG(killed) : "death symbolises an ending - the dreamer realises she has ended
a relationship"
DOG : "the dreamer realises her ex was loyal and devoted - just like a dog"
INSTANT : "it all happened very quickly"
MISSING : "something is lacking in your life - in this case she realises she
is missing her ex"
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "Maybe I should not have broken up with my boyfriend. There seemed
to be good reasons at the time but I have a feeling I have made a mistake"
