BREATHING - DREAM DICTIONARY : This dream dictionary is based upon hundreds of real dreams and has been meticulously researched. However, the only person who can truly identify the cause of a dream is the dreamer. Use the questions and quotes on this page to help you find out what has triggered your dream.
BREATHING : If you are breathing easily in real life it generally means
that you are relaxed and able to think clearly. If you are finding breathing
difficult then it means that you tend to be caught in the moment and unable
to plan for the future. Often heavy breathing in a dream may link to some
real medical condition such as asthma which is affecting you lately.
QUESTIONS to help you make associations(pick the one that
makes most sense to you)

Below you will see a series of quotes. Each quote represents the meaning
of a particular dream(these are all dreams where the meaning is understood
totally). For instance one dream may have meant that the dreamer was having
trouble at work. In that case the quote may simply be "There is a bad atmosphere
at work". Some information is included about which dream symbols were included
in the dream(within the squares brackets). Often a sample dream is included
which shows you how the dream interpretation was reached.

ESSAY : What is the symbolic meaning of breathing in dreams?
When we breathe it reveals a lot about how we are coping with a situation.
So if the dream reveals anxiety then it may suggest that you are caught in
the moment and unable to think clearly. In another sense breathing in dreams
may link to medical conditions especially those involving asthma.
Breathing symbolises our comfort and freedom in life and the restrictions
that are placed on us. E.g.
"My friend is getting married. But I wonder if she is too young. It will
place so many restrictions on her. She will just not have any freedom whatsoever"[Dream
symbol - lung cancer][the dream on which this quote is based is featured in
full at the end of this article]
Breathing in dreams may be symbolic of some real life medical condition
that you are monitoring. E.g.
"I have just got a cold in real life and I am finding it difficult to
shake off"[Dream symbol - breathless]
"I have been climbing mountains and the air is somewhat thin up there.
I sometimes find it difficult to breathe"[Dream symbol - breathless]
"I am overweight and have to work at a pace which I am comfortable with.
I was pushing myself beyond my own limits yesterday and felt it"[Dream
symbol - comfortable]
"I woke up and desperately wanted to go to the toilet"[Dream symbol
- heavy breathing]
Heavy breathing can be connected with some immediate anxiety about something.
E.g.
"I have just received some big bills and its made me feel down about
my new business "[Dream symbol - heavy breathing]
"I was telling a friend that she was taking on too many responsibilities
yet I do exactly the same thing. I try to go at a pace which I am not comfortable
with "[Dream symbol - piglets crammed together have trouble breathing]
"My Dad keeps watching everything I do. I just broke the rules and now
he is watching every little mistake"[Dream symbol - breathless]
"My Granny is on her own and there is a major storm in the area. I wonder
if she can cope"[Dream symbol - granny having difficulty breathing]
"I am under pressure at the moment to think about the future. I want
to take a step back and plan things out better"[Dream symbol - breathe
underwater comfortably]
If you breathe easily then it maybe shows that you are relaxed in general
and happy. E.g.
"I have been changing the layout of my children's bedrooms with them.
It was a good experience and brought us together"[Dream symbol - no trouble
breathing underwater]

SAMPLE DREAM : Dreams generally link to some real issue of relevance
to you right now. They may capture your feelings on some health issue, work
problem , relationship in difficulty , your feelings about how things are
generally going, your plans for the day ahead or some simple paranoia or fear.
The dreams featured in this website will try to reduce the dreams meaning
to a quote which captures your current feelings on some issue. When studying
your own dreams try to think what quotes could capture your own feelings on
pressing issues. Think especially of the day before the dream and your thoughts
about the day to come.
-----------------------
THE DREAM I have a friend in our youth group who is getting married. She is
one of my good friends. I had a dream that my best friend had told me to go
to the hospital to visit the friend that was getting married and cheer her
up. In the dream she explains to me how she has lung cancer and that she isn't
sure what she wants to do with her marriage. She says in the dream that she
loves me and I can't quite frankly remember what I responded. Then she commented,
"It's slow motion." All I could do was be in shock and confusion the whole
time because I thought I was living the dream. Eventually I walked through
a gym with stands around and a whole lot of kids walking around on top of
the stands. Then I woke up.
THE REALITY The dreamers friend at youth is getting married. In real life
she seems depressed because her parents want to have a serious talk about
something.
DREAM MEANING The dream has captured the following feeling within the dreamer
- "I have been thinking about my friend at youth group. She is getting
married. I just wonder if she is too young to be married and that this will
restrict her in so many ways. She will not have the freedom to do anything
and its will probably end badly."
THE INTERPRETATION Dreams ponder the great dilemmas of our lives and of those
people around us. In this case the dream is clearly related to her friend
at youth group. With this friend there is clearly something happening in her
life as she is getting married. So this dream can be simply about this girl
and the dreamers thoughts about her situation.
What exactly could the symbols mean though? Well cancer is a symbol which
is often easily understood. Cancer is a degenerative illness which in dreams
tends to suggest that there is a fundamental problem with our lives. In this
case its very relevant. The dreamers friend is getting married at a young
age. Some people will argue that she is too young and that this is a major
mistake.
There is also another clue in the lung cancer. Breathing is associated with
the lung and difficulty breathing in dreams suggests that we are not comfortable
and happy. In this case it is clearly relevant. The lung cancer symbolises
the constraints that are placed on this girl because she is getting married.
Taking such a decision at such an age can clearly affect your life.
The words slow motion are also maybe quite significant. It maybe suggesting
that we need to slow things down a bit. That things are happening too quickly
and its impossible to react properly.
So the dream does use some unusual symbols. But in dream language they all
express emotions that are very relevant to this dreams friends situation
Symbolic Meanings
CANCER : "A fundamental flaw in the direction of her friends life - the
decision to get married so young"
LUNG CANCER : "getting married so young will make life less comfortable.
She will be unable to breathe so easily. Its too many restrictions at too
early an age"
SLOW MOTION : "the decisions have been made too quickly"
