ESSAY : What is the symbolic meaning of hearts in dreams?

Of course one obvious link is with affairs of the heart. E.g.

A heart pounding may suggest an anxious situation in some way. E.g.

Hearts often link to the heart of some issue. You are looking at what is really important. E.g.
