DREAM DICTIONARY - Roman :

What does a Roman make you think of? Often Rome makes you think of very dramatic and epic films. Perhaps this dramatic scene is a metaphor for some highly dramatic scene the day before (the kind which would not be out of place in a film). Maybe you have been thinking in epic ways - thinking through something which is deeply important and goes to the very heart of your being. The Roman world was also highly brutal and so can symbolise moments when others have imposed themselves upon you and not cared how you feel.

KEY WORDS :brutality, harsh times, dramatic, epic, democracy and others ideals, thinking about philosophy Try to think of ways in which you might use these keywords to describe your current feelings. Think of phrases like "It has been an epic story - me and my ex really did split up dramatically. I only just ealised it yesterday". In that case the symbolism of romans revolves around the word epic. In that way the dream is saying that the dreamers relationship with his ex was highly dramatic - just as dramatic as a roman epic.

EXAMPLE DREAMS

Example dream : A Roman noble taking charge symbolised the dreamers thoughts - he had wanted to confront a woman in a very dramatic way (Romans are often portrayed in very dramatic ways - they act in bold ways and speak very eloquently). So we can actually translate the meaning of "roman" in the dream to the word "dramatic" and we see that the dream captures this type of feeling "I want to confront her in a very bold and dramatic way. But I know it will cause trouble. I should think twice about it."
Example dream : A dream where the dreamer is exploring a house was linked to his thoughts about the mind. This was a dream of Carl Jung and it occurred when he was developing his ideas about the collective consciousness. During the dream he explores the Roman walls in the foundations. This was linked to him exploring ideas about instinct within the human psyche. Roman walls were a symbol for the influence of ancient times on human thinking - we pass on ideas and ways of thinking by means of instinct. As humans develop we live in a more civilised way but deep inside us lurks the experience and instincts of ancient man.
Example dream : The night before a roman army dream the dreamer was thinking about the harsh reality of life. The Roman army was a symbol of "brutality" and we can see how this theme had relevance in this thought "I used to think that she was destined for me but last night I was thinking how life can be very brutal."
