EXAMPLE DREAMS

Example dream : In one dream the dreamer was going around making promises to everyone whilst drunk. In real life he had been worried about a family argument. He had agreed with both sides telling them what they wanted to hear. He was worried that he might be found out. The argument was so bad that at some point he might have to stand up and be counted. So the dream seems to mirror reality. In the dream he is "making promises to everyone" whilst in real life he was "agreeing with everyone". So what is the symbolism of "promising"? In a way the dreamer was going around promising everyone. He was agreeing with their version of events and implied in that was his support for their point of view in a family argument. Each time he agreed he was promising to support them! So if the situation came round that he had to take one side over another then someone would be disappointed. The dream catches this exact feeling "I cannot go around agreeing with everyone over this dispute. At some point I may have to stand up and be counted. I cannot take both sides. It will be very awkward." So in real life he was making promises because he was promising people his support. The symbolism is easy "you cannot promise two opposing sides your support - it will only create problems."
Example dream : The dreamer had just gone back to work - she felt guilty about leaving her daughter. Promises to her daughter tapped into the persistent need to think of herself as a good mother.
