DREAM DICTIONARY - Force :

Force in a dream may help to build up a picture of your thoughts. It may show that you have been thinking about how and why someone forced you into something. Sometimes people act in a forceful way for your own good. They are cruel to be kind. Or they make you do something for your own good. Maybe you have been thinking in such terms yourself.

Read through these keywords and try to see how they link to feelings in your mind right now. Think especially of your moods, feelings about relationships and also thoughts about specific issues from yesterday.

KEY WORDS AND PHRASES:
- not popular e.g. "but someone has to do it"
- cruel to be kind e.g. "he needs to learn the hard way"
- justifying e.g. "I know this new system is not popular but it will get better as we get used to it"
- something needed doing e.g. "It just had to be done"

Try to think how these keywords and phrases might have relevance in describing your current feelings e.g. "he looked at me as if I was the criminal but I am saving him from himself. He was killing himself. I had to force him into treatment"

Dreams make associations which can connect in any way with your thoughts. They may portray any scenario or emotion that you might connect with a symbol. For instance if you "win" at something then you feel good about yourself. So a dream about winning may be a symbol for you "feeling good".

EXAMPLE DREAMS

Example dream : One dream about the dreamers husband losing his temper took place whilst they were having problems. He husband was losing his temper and was blaming everything on her. The dream helped her gauge how bad he was coming. Often when arguments occur in a relationship things do get out of hand and arguments can be very heated. Within the context of such problems the dreamer was thinking if she was still safe.
Example dream : A dream where a spear was "being forced back in" continuously was part of a learning dream. The dreamer (Elias Howe) was trying to invent the first sewing machine. The spear being forced back in symbolised the action in which the sewing machine worked. He was visualising a crucial aspect of the machine. The dream used a symbol The which seemed very odd (a spear instead of a needle) and the dream did not use a machine (instead a native with a spear). Yet the dream made this important insight from the dream.
Example dream : In one dream the dreamer escapes a corrupt prison but returns having found out that the alternative was worse. In real life the dreamer was thinking through her options neither of which were ideal. Being coerced and forced in the dream was symbolic of her feeling constrained and restricted and wishing for more freedom to make choices which would make her genuinely happy.
Example dream : A forced march symbolised a very lengthy and difficult project. The dreamer had put every last effort into the project over a prolonged period of time.
Example dream : Forced into a back seat and raped linked to some terrible abuse the dreamer had had on an internet forum.
